Google Messages – Required Settings for SMS/MMS Test Compatibility (Pixel Devices)

To ensure stable SMS and MMS behavior during testing on Pixel devices, configure the following settings in the Google Messages app:

📩 Enable MMS Auto Download (Normal + Roaming)

  1. Open the Google Messages app.
  2. Tap the profile icon ➔ Messages settings ➔ Advanced.
  3. Enable both options: - Auto-download MMS – ON
    - Auto-download MMS when roaming – ON

🕒 Set Time Format to 24-Hour

⚠️ This setting ensures consistent message timestamps within the app.

  1. Open Settings on the device.
  2. Go to System ➔ Date & time.
  3. Enable Use 24-hour format – ON

💬 Disable RCS / Chat Features (If Available)

Pixel devices often come with RCS (Chat features) enabled by default via Google Messages. For testing purposes, this feature must be disabled.

To disable Chat features:

  1. Open the Google Messages app.
  2. Tap the profile icon ➔ Messages settings ➔ Chat features.
  3. If visible: - Toggle Enable chat features → OFF - Ensure Status displays "Chat features unavailable" or "Disconnected"

🔍 If Chat features is not available in settings, RCS is not supported or active—no further action needed.
