Google Messages – Required Settings for SMS/MMS Test Compatibility (Xiaomi Devices)

To ensure reliable SMS and MMS functionality during testing on Xiaomi devices using Google Messages, configure the following settings within the Google Messages app:

📩 Enable MMS Auto Download (Normal + Roaming)

  1. Open the Google Messages app.
  2. Tap the profile icon or three-dot menu (⋮) ➔ Messages settings ➔ Advanced.
  3. Enable: - Auto-download MMS – ON
    - Auto-download MMS when roaming – ON

🕒 Set Time Format to 24-Hour

⚠️ While this is a system setting, it ensures timestamp consistency in message logs.

  1. Open Settings on your Xiaomi device.
  2. Go to Additional settings ➔ Date & time.
  3. Enable Use 24-hour format – ON

💬 Disable RCS / Chat Features (If Available)

Some Xiaomi devices using Google Messages support RCS (Chat features) via Jibe by Google. RCS must be disabled to avoid conflicts with standard SMS/MMS testing.

To disable Chat features (RCS):

  1. Open the Google Messages app.
  2. Tap the profile icon ➔ Messages settings ➔ Chat features.
  3. If visible: - Toggle Enable chat features → OFF - Confirm that Status shows "Chat features unavailable" or "Disconnected"

🔍 If the Chat features menu is not shown, RCS is not active—no action required.
